New Pet Visits
Congrats on your new family member! We can help you with the next steps. We look forward to offering you and your pet the best Denver vet experience. We can help with fear, anxiety, and stress. Visits to the vet should be fun!
Historical Information
We want to understand your cat and dog’s needs. 30-minute appointments give us plenty of time to talk.
Each team member studies medical communication when they join Goodheart. We’ll ask about your pet’s past and present experiences.
Immunizations (Vaccinations)
We only give your pet the immunizations they need. We do not have a one-size-fits-all protocol. Instead, we consider age, health, lifestyle, and exposure risk. We also listen to your concerns before deciding what (if any) vaccines to give.
Intestinal Parasite Screen
Studies show that 5-10% of cats and dogs have some form of intestinal parasite.
Parasites cause illness in pets and may cause health concerns in people. Yearly testing helps us identifies problems before they get out of hand.
Spaying/Neutering Services
There are many benefits to spaying or neutering your cat or dog. You and your vet will decide the right time based on your pet’s health, age, and breed.
In general, cats are spayed or neutered before 5 months while dogs are spayed/neutered between 6-18 months. We’ll discuss the topic and come up with the best plan for you and your pet. Spaying or neutering your pet is safe and has a low risk of complications.
Physical Examination
Our cats and dogs can’t tell us how they feel. An annual physical exam lets us know what’s going well and also gives us insight into problems.
When done completely, we gain important knowledge about your pet. Our 30-minute appointments give us plenty of time for a thorough checkup.
Heartworm Testing & Prevention
Heartworm disease is common in cats and dogs. Yet, it is preventable!
We test our patients every year to ensure the medications are working. If not, we’ll find new ways of treating heartworms since there are many options.
Nutrition Consultation
The food we give our pets is critical to providing them a long and healthy life. For that reason, we’re dedicated to reviewing nutritional research. We pass the information along to you at appointments and on our blog.
We’ll guide you on decisions for your pet’s life stage. A pet’s age dictates different needs for growth, weight maintenance, and performance.
If needed, we’ll review diets that offer nutrition to help medical conditions.
Food Services
Goodheart recommends Purina Veterinary Diets for the treatment of many medical conditions.
In evaluating veterinary therapeutic diets, Goodheart looks for:
- High-quality, effective nutrition
- The latest advances in nutritional science and technology
- Excellent taste

Yearly Check-Ups (we call these Wellness Visits)
Regular check-ins maintain your pet’s health and catch issues early. Every aspect of our Wellness Visit addresses pet health problems with this philosophy in mind. We emphasize nutrition and yearly professional dental cleanings to keep the overall body healthy.

Professional Dental Care
Many pet diseases begin with underlying dental disease. Regular professional dental cleanings can help.
Your cat and dog should visit us starting at 2-years-old for a dental exam. We like to check your pet’s teeth each year. We’ll recommend a cleaning only if they need one.
Research proves that a professional cleaning makes a tremendous difference to your pet’s health.
Services include:
- Cleaning and polishing
- Tooth extractions
- Oral surgery
Our veterinary team learns the same dental techniques as board-certified veterinary dentists.
All our hospitals have digital radiography rooms and state-of-the-art dental cleaning equipment.
We’ve recorded these videos to offer more details about our dental philosophy:

Laboratory Testing
Internal problems can stay hidden until your pet exhibits signs of illness.
We can learn a lot about your pet’s body through a small blood sample. Bloodwork tells us what is going on now. It can also help us track your cat and dog over time to identify problematic trends.

Behavior Consultation
Behavior training and stress management are critical to the human-animal bond. Many veterinarians overlook these areas. We want to be a resource for solving issues through education. We can also connect you with the Denver-based expert we have vetted.
Microchipping
A microchip is a grain-of-rice-sized, electronic device. It’s placed just under the skin between the shoulder blades. The chip contains a unique ID number that can be scanned by a veterinarian or shelter to identify your pet.
We can microchip your cat or dog when they’re already under anesthesia for a spay/neuter or a dental cleaning. We can also microchip your pet when they’re awake. Microchipping causes minimal pain and we try to distract your pet with lots of treats and cuddles.
When Pets Need Extra Care
Our surgical suite is fully equipped to handle planned pet surgeries and emergencies. We consult with specialists for cases like TPLO surgery for dogs. We also offer onsite x-rays and a pharmacy to reduce your errands.
Diagnostic & Therapeutic Services
We’re equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services. Our medical record system is completely digital, providing a comprehensive solution for wellness care.
X-rays and Ultrasounds
Our on-site X-ray equipment is completely digital. All hospitals own whole-body and dental imaging systems. Both systems use digital technology to provide the highest quality images. We also partner with board-certified radiologists for ultrasound and image review as needed.
Emergency Care
Please call 720.780.7766 for 24-hour access to a team member to help with any questions or issues.
Integrative Therapies
We offer alternative therapies including laser therapy and herbal medicine to address a variety of health concerns. If your pet suffers from arthritis and inflammation, neurologic disease, or a variety of metabolic disorders, these options might help them live a healthier, more active, and more comfortable life.
On-Site Surgical Services
We perform a wide variety of procedures in state-of-the-art surgical suites. We designed them with viewing windows. You’re invited to watch your pet the entire time he or she is having surgery. We want you to feel “in the know” about your pet’s health.
We can also arrange for a surgical specialist to provide specialized procedures at Goodheart.
Pharmacy (Onsite and Online)
We want to save you time and energy. So, we maintain a complete inventory of medicines to meet the needs of your pet.
We stock:
- Pharmaceuticals

Compassionate End-Of-Life Pet Care
We take an individualized approach when counseling clients about their pets. Let’s discuss your questions, worries, and needs. We’ll never rush these important conversations. We’re here for you every step of the way.
Advisory Services
End-of-life discussions can be hard, so we never rush these conversations. Bring us your questions, worries, and needs. We’ll do our best to counsel you through:
- Assessing your pet’s current quality of life.
- And then, ways to improve his or her quality of life for the time being. Your pet might be struggling with daily activities like walking or going to the bathroom. We have lots of tips for interim steps before end-of-life discussions begin.
We’ll speak with you as often as you’d like until you feel comfortable making a knowledgeable decision. Please contact us today if you’re worried about your pet.
Loving and Peaceful Transition
Eventually, you may notice your pet’s quality of life has diminished so much that you are ready to discuss an end-of-life plan for your pet.
We’ll answer all your questions about the process and talk about all the steps ahead of time.
We take as much time as you need to help you feel comfortable that as a team, we can all offer your pet a peaceful transition.
- Our team will be there to support you every step of the way. Some people prefer to have private time with their pets before or after, which we will always accommodate.
- We’ll cater to your and your pet’s needs. You can spend as much time with your pet before, during, and after the end-of-life process. You can sit right by their side to comfort them.
- Location matters. We have a living-room-style “comfort room” at each hospital. It has its own exit so you can leave the hospital when you’re ready without walking through the lobby.
Please know that euthanasia does not hurt your pet. Your pet will feel like he or she is falling asleep. And we are here to hold your hand as your pet makes his or her way across the rainbow bridge.
Palliative Medicine
- If it’s clear your pet is suffering, please contact us.
- We can help improve your pet’s quality of life using medicine to manage pain and ease your pet’s anxiety that often accompanies aging.
- We’ll help you navigate what to change about your pet’s lifestyle and routines.
- And we can call in specialists and partners for additional help.
We want your pet to be as comfortable as possible in the time they have left with you and your family.
Clients tell us their pets LOVE coming to Goodheart. That’s because we do 100 little things to make each visit amazing. We look forward to meeting you and your pets soon.
